Local basketball poster boy, commercial endorser, and TV host Chris Tiu has bid goodbye to being single. Single girls out there should count him out of their prospects because the heartthrob is not available anymore. He has tied the knot with long-time girlfriend Clarisse Ong.
The simple but solemn wedding ceremony was held last September 7 in a Catholic church in Vancouver, Canada. According to people close to the newly-wed couple, both of them strategically chose the date because they are devotees of the Virgin Mary, whose feast day is annually celebrated every September 8.
Asked why they chose Vancouver, Chris said it is his favorite city in the planet, of course next to Manila. As of press time, there is no word yet if the couple has any plan to hold a wedding ceremony here in the country. But a wedding reception to celebrate the matrimony was held last Sunday (September 29) in an events venue in Makati City.
According to sources, the Vancouver wedding was so private and exclusive that they only had a few invited guests. The wedding entourage was also not that big. Unlike the usual Filipino practice of having too many principal sponsors, the Tiu couple only had four sets. Those comprised of aunts and uncles of both Chris and Clarisse.
The wedding ceremony in Canada was of course attended by immediate family members and a few close friends of the couple. It was so private that no news came out about it before, during, and after the ceremony, until now. The newlyweds reportedly stayed in the country for a while for their honeymoon.
But some showbiz insiders noted that before the couple flew to Canada, some kibitzers found a way to discover the wedding plans. However, no one dared to announce the wedding. Those showbiz reporters who dared simply wrote the news as a blind item. Not too many people were able to correctly guess the subject of that blind item.
The 28-year-old heartthrob should be a role model to all young people out there. That is because Clarisse was his first and only girlfriend. Their romantic relationship started when they were still in high school. Many of their friends claim that their bond grew stronger when they graduated from college (both attended Ateneo de Manila University in Loyola, Quezon City).
According to people who know her, Clarisse is usually shy and quiet. She is also very simple and humble, unlike most of the women that Chris gets to work with in his showbiz and public engagements. But she is obviously hailing from another Chinese family.
Thus, the simple and solemn wedding ceremony befits Clarisse’s personality. Both families are very proud and happy about this union. To date, the newlyweds are back in the country. Chris is set to return to his current engagements, after taking a short break for the wedding. He is currently hosting an educational show in GMA-7, ‘I-Bilib,’ which airs every Sunday afternoon.
