Martin Nievera said he is happy to have a good working relationship with ex-wife Pops Fernandez. They remained friends even after separating years ago.
They are not the kind of couple who exchange gifts, however, when there’s a special occasion. Martin will be Pops’ guest on her birthday concert on December 12.
Martin said she’s glad she has a concert on her birthday because that will mean more projects for her.
They have been spending a lot of time together these past weeks because they are preparing for their concert “The Penthouse… Live!” at the PICC Plenary Hall, CCP Complex in Pasay City.
They are rehearsing every other day. He is excited every time he gets to work with Pops because they have good rapport already. Although they have a script, that’s merely a guideline because everything is natural with them. They like making impromptus.
Martin laughed when he was called “Lagari King” because of his several singing engagements. Aside from his concert with Pops, Martin was also a guest singer at Lani Misalucha’s concert on December 6.
His guesting on Lani’s concert was last minute because Jed Madela was sick. “Since Jed and I have the same waistline, they got me,” Martin joked.
His being a second choice is not an issue with Martin. In fact, he didn’t ask for his talent fee because Lani is a close friend. He sang two songs.
He doesn’t mind being a “replacement” because he believes they are all equal there and there’s no bigger star. He likes singing a lot because he considers this his vocal training.
“Believe it or not, I take care of my voice by using it a lot.” He likened his voice to a diesel engine. If he doesn’t use it, he might lose it.
